"Political activism" in Strășeni through the use of the Russian payment application PSB and vote buying

In September 2024, in the context of the campaign for the presidential elections on October 20, 2024, the accused, unofficially acting for the benefit of the political bloc “Victory,” allegedly offered and gave the amount of 2,000 lei to witness Știrbu Elena, at her residence in the Strășeni district, to persuade her to exercise her voting right in favor of the candidate supported by the political bloc “Victory.” The courts also noted the involvement of the accused in recruitment/political activism activities and the use of the context of the PSB application.

Other property measures: Special confiscation of the equivalent of the amount of 2,000 lei used in the commission of the crime

The appellate decision reinforces the conviction ruling and corrects the first instance's omission regarding the special confiscation. The Court held that the amount of 2,000 lei given to Elena Știrbu is property used in the commission of the crime and, since it was not seized in kind, it must be confiscated in equivalent from the defendant. The defense's appeal was rejected, the Court considering that the first instance correctly established the facts and properly classified the act as offering and giving money for the purpose of influencing the voter. The peculiarity of the update: the case becomes a 'decision on appeal,' and the fields regarding confiscation must be changed from 'No' to 'Yes,' with the amount of 2,000 lei.
